Ida student, 12, dies from accident injuries

McKenzie Orde had been in critical condition since Monday morning. By SCOTT NEINAS IDA - A 12-year-old Ida Middle School student died this morning as a result of a car-pedestrian collision Monday, Monroe County Sheriff's Depart-ment officials said. McKenzie Orde was struck by a southbound car on Lewis Ave. south of Lulu Rd. Monday morning as she tried to cross the road to catch a school bus. The tragedy had left the girl's family, friends and classmates hoping all week that she would survive the accident. She had been listed in critical condition until dying at 9:10 this morning in Toledo Hospital, sheriff's officials said. McKenzie was in the southbound lane when a car driven by Violet Clifton, 68, of Petersburg struck her. Ida Township volunteer firefighters kept her alive until a medical helicopter flew her to the hospital. Ms. Clifton wasn't injured. The fatality is the 11th on Monroe County roads this year, compared to seven last year at this time. Funeral services are pending at Capaul Funeral Home. İMonroe Evening News 2002
