Ida Township has several road projects lined up for this summer. Ida Township Supervisor Larry Metz reported that the township will put an asphalt cap on Douglas Road, between Ida Center and Todd roads, at a cost of about $130,000. Douglas Road also will receive three inches of asphalt from Ida Center to Lulu Road, at a cost of about $115,000. Since Ida Township does not have a road millage, all road projects must come out of the general fund. The township also receives some county self-help funds toward specific projects, but the exact figures are not yet available. The Monroe County Road Commission is recapping Ida Center Road from Lewis Avenue to Douglas Road. The township is contributing $40,000 toward the estimated $225,000 project, said Mr. Metz. The road commission also is putting a double seal on Ida West Road, which is a county primary road. Lulu Road will be double sealed from Minx to Lewis Avenue. Lulu Road will be chipped and sealed from Lewis to Secor. Todd Road will be double sealed from Douglas to Secor, and from Minx to Lewis. Mr. Metz said the township’s local road mowing is underway. The chloriding is done, at about the same cost as last year, which was $24,500. “We chloride the full width of the road, not just a single pass and our residents appreciate that,” said Mr. Metz. “It does help to keep the dust down.” The township had looked into replacing the narrow bridge on Leghorn Road, but it proved to be too costly this year, said Mr. Metz. “It needs to be replaced,” said Mr. Metz. “It’s very narrow and old.” He said the township was looking into various methods of replacing the bridge, including an oval tile. Ida Township Board is working on the water project, which will bring Monroe municipal water to the area of Ida served by the sewer system. However, the project is proving to be more complicated than first anticipated. “We had a meeting with the Rural Community Action group to see about long-term funding for the water project,” said Mr. Metz. “And we met with the Monroe County Road Commission to try to figure out a design for putting the water main down Lewis Avenue.” He said that putting the water main down Lewis is very complex because the existing sanitary sewer, a fiber optic cable, and the storm water sewer system all must be avoided. “We don’t want to tear that up,” said Mr. Metz.
